Charmaine Simei, the Chief Executive of Tuntum Housing Association which manages more than 1,600 affordable properties in 12 local authority areas across the East Midlands, has been appointed to the Board of the National Housing Federation (NHF).
With over 30 years of experience in the social housing sector, she has previously been a mentor with the Housing Diversity Network and is currently an executive member of BME National.

Charmaine Simei said: “It is a privilege to be appointed to the NHF board.
“I have been in the sector for 30 years and my belief in the role that housing plays in changing lives and building stronger communities has never dimmed, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to contribute at a national level.”
“I look forward to working with fellow board members to champion the needs of residents and colleagues, support and promote the vital work of the sector, and help shape a resilient, inclusive and sustainable future for social housing.”
Commenting on the announcement, Deirdre LaBassiere, Tuntum Chair, said: “At a time when social housing faces both challenges and opportunities, we are thrilled to see Charmaine bringing her experience, insight and values to the NHF Board.
“This is a moment of immense pride for Tuntum. Founded as a Black-led housing association nearly 40 years ago, we have always believed in the power of representation, inclusion and community leadership.
“Charmaine's appointment reflects not only her personal achievements, but also the significant contribution that community-based housing associations make to our sector.”
She will take her seat on the Board alongside three other chief executives from the housing sector with the task of supporting the NHF on its 2025-30 business strategy whilst ensuring strong governance for NHF members.
The appointments were welcomed by NHF Chief Executive Kate Henderson.
She said: “We are delighted to be joined by four highly respected leaders from across the social housing sector.
“Together they bring extensive knowledge from different regions, organisations and communities, strengthening the breadth of expertise on our Board.
"Their experience and perspectives will be invaluable in helping the NHF to support members and in championing the vital role housing associations play in addressing the country's housing crisis.”
