South Croydon nursery celebrates World Environment Day with garden clean-up

Children at Partou Gingerbread House Day Nursery and Pre-School in South Croydon have marked World Environment Day by litter picking the setting’s front garden, reflecting its ongoing commitment to environmental awareness and responsibility.

Through this hands-on experience, the children learnt the importance of caring for the world around them and how even small actions can have a positive impact on the environment.

Claire Preece, Partou Gingerbread House Nursery Manager, said: “Working together to help keep our nursery grounds clean encourages a sense of teamwork, cooperation and pride in our surroundings.

“The activity provided valuable opportunities for the children to develop responsibility, respect for nature, and an understanding of their role in protecting the environment.

“By actively contributing to the care of the nursery's front garden, they gained a greater appreciation for the importance of looking after shared spaces and helping others.”

Set in an impressive three-storey building close to Sanderstead and Purley Oaks railway stations, Partou Gingerbread House welcomes children from six months to five years old.

Its ‘home-from-home’ indoor learning environment is complemented by stunning outdoor spaces featuring grass, nature and paved areas, together with a large mud kitchen and vegetable patch.

Jessica Pais, Partou Gingerbread Senior Deputy Manager, said: “World Environment Day provided a wonderful opportunity to help children understand the importance of caring for our planet.

“By taking part in activities such as litter picking, they learn that even the smallest actions can make a big difference.

“We were incredibly proud to see the children working together to care for and respect their environment.”

Kirsty Jackson, Partou Co-Managing Director, said: “The Partou Gingerbread team and families should be incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the children.

“Experiences such as these help nurture caring, thoughtful, and environmentally conscious individuals who understand that every action, no matter how small, can make a difference.”
